Singer-songwriter John Denver touched millions of people, and achieved superstar status through his pop-folk songs based on folk, with a lot of them being set in Colorado. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. grew up in Roswell New Mexico. He fell in love Colorado. He eventually moved to Aspen. Denver's songs for his home state have drawn many to Colorado. G. Brown, curator of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame declared that John Denver is the only artist to represent Colorado. Denver was the very first Hall of Fame inductee in the year 2011. Denver is today the international face of Colorado. When I travel, I always meet someone from the other part of the globe, or someone from New Zealand and you say 'I'm originally from Colorado and the first word that comes out of their mouth is Oh John Denver! Brown explained. Take Me Home Country Roads was co-written by Bill Danoff - was Denver's first Top 10 single as a solo singer after a brief stint in small folk bands. Danoff wrote the tune in the spirit of Johnny Cash, but Denver was able to hear an early version and knew it was going to be an instant hit in the top 10. The song was recorded by the singer within a couple of days when he performed it in front of an enthusiastic audience in Washington D.C.
